ATVB Journal Early Career Investigator Awards

Beginning in 2005, Dr. Donald Heistad (Editor-in-Chief, 1999–2007) initiated awards to honor early career investigations for their outstanding papers in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. An early career investigator, who is the first author or last author of an original paper can be eligible for the following:

Karl Link Award in Thrombosis

Daniel Steinberg Award in Arteriosclerosis

Werner Risau Award in Vascular Biology

The goals of these awards is to recognize outstanding work by early career investigators and to encourage them to send their most exciting work to ATVB.

Recipients will be invited to attend the annual ATVB conference where they will present their work in a plenary session. They will receive a plaque and a check for $2,500, funded by Lippincott, Williams, & Wilkins, and up to $1,000 of reimbursed travel expenses funded by the ATVB Council. Award recipients will also be recognized in the ATVB Journal.

Eligibility

The first or last author must be within 10 years of an initial faculty (or equivalent) appointment. Authors should indicate, at the time of submission of the manuscript, their desire to be considered for the award. Candidates should also submit a biographical sketch (maximum 4 pages), including a list of key full-length papers.

Criteria and Selection

Awards will be based primarily on the quality of the published paper and the interest it has engender in the scientific community. The selection process will also consider the overall achievements of the author.

Please contact the ATVB editorial office for any questions regarding eligibility, criteria, or other aspects of the awards.
